"Hail
To The Chief" Jerald Harris

In the shadows of the Nations Capitol you would
have thought the crowd was just introduced to the President of the
United States because as Jerald Harris exited his car in victory lane
the entire crowd were on thier feet either clapping or cheering. The
Virginia Sprint Series has been until now an all dirt series but as
it branched out to run some pavement races at Old Dominon Speedway
this year bringing open wheel excitement to a stock car track just
a few minutes from Washington DC what a show it was. Thirteen of the
dirt racers made the switch to pavement with Scott Vasbinder winning
heat one and Satch Worley taking heat two. The green waved over the
feature field and Scott Vasbinder shot to the lead with Satch Worley
on his tail and Jerald Harris up high in third, Vasbinder was rolling
along out front keeping Worley and Harris at bay until lap five when
Harris found his groove and powered to the front spot. Worley used
the same groove to get into second and the two f ront runners were
now really going after it as lap after lap they only got faster smashing
the track record every time by the stripe. With two laps to go Worley
got loose and that was all Harris needed to give him alittle space
and fly to the checkered flag a few car lenths ahead of Worley to
close out the frantic first feature for the Virginia racers on pavement.
To recap the finish it was Jerald Harris, Satch
Worley, Billy Norfleet, Scott Vasbinder, Mike Marr, Bill Rice, French
Grimes, Carl Simmonds, Anthony Linkenhoker, Paul White, Dany Miller,
Tony Harris and Ron Moyers.
The series takes a week off before heading to Winchester
Speedway in Winchester, Va. for Racing Over Dose Weekend with a two
show on Friday and Saturday night July 4th and 5th.
